To A Man From A Child

The young man inside
calls out in the night
amid the millions of voices
And as the years pass by
he remains in the fight
to reconcile all his choices

He boasted of strength
celebrated his vigor
and chided restraint in the wild
But the years lost their length
And decisions grew bigger
As he shrank to a man from a child
Though he strives to do right
living sober and civil
still hears the call of the wild
But he gathers his might
rejecting the drivel
and he shrinks to a man from a child

Why the young mock the old
experienced and wizened
Is the tragedy of all the ages
Why heartless and cold
creating much schism
and find themselves locked up in cages
they fashioned, constructed
by fleshly desires
the din can be heard in their revel
Wrong thinking inducted
and careless with fires
becoming enslaved to the devil

The young man inside
still wails in the night
amid the millions of voices
As the years pass him by
he is caught in the fight
to reconcile all his choices

So where goes he
to discover some peace
and escape the guilt of his sin
His wanderings flee
No paying his lease
and time passing tells him to repent
To the Crafter of souls
to the Lover of men
he makes his plea with a whince
The young man in the old
repents of his sin
realizing that God's love makes sense

And he strives to do right
living sober and civil
still hearing the call of the wild
He gathers his might
rejecting the drivel
and he shrinks to a man from a child
